Linda Mwananchi urges nationwide protests in June for political reforms

Leaders supporting the Linda Mwananchi movement have called on Kenyans to participate in large-scale demonstrations planned for late June 2026, characterizing the three-day event as a critical juncture in their pursuit of political change.

Addressing congregants at a church service in Nakuru County, Siaya Governor James Orengo explained that the protests aim to commemorate youths who perished during the 2024 Gen Z-led demonstrations, while further advocating for governance reforms.

“June 25 is approaching, and we all recall the Gen Zs sacrificed their lives for this nation. Therefore, as Linda Mwananchi, we implore you to make this country unmanageable,” Orengo stated to those gathered.

He affirmed that the movement remains steadfast despite potential hazards, highlighting its dedication to what he termed a more extensive fight for national progress.

“We fear no imprisonment, we fear no death. We fear nothing except fear itself. The moment has arrived and that moment is now,” he emphasized.

Orengo reaffirmed his conviction that the political landscape is evolving in favor of a citizen-driven movement, expressing assurance that the group will influence the nation’s future leadership.

“I am appealing to you, let us render this country unworkable from June 2026. I am certain that the next administration in this nation will be established by Linda Mwananchi,” he declared.

The governor also commended faction leaders such as Babu Owino, Edwin Sifuna, Caleb Amisi and Godfrey Osotsi, noting their achievements provide the collective with optimism for future political engagements.

In a separate statement, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna indicated that their Nakuru visit formed part of an extensive initiative concentrating on governance, human rights, and accountability.

“People wonder why we are in Nakuru, but this nation deserves competent leadership that honors human rights,” Sifuna remarked.

He added that advancement must coincide with safeguarding basic liberties, asserting that the movement will persist in promoting its objectives throughout the country.
