Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has requested tranquility and orderly conduct as he prepares for a political gathering in Kikuyu later today, highlighting security worries after morning disturbances in the region.

In a Saturday announcement, Gachagua encouraged his followers to maintain peace and requested that security authorities preserve peace and order, noting that the event is designed to occur without aggression or conflict.

“I request that all our supporters join our peaceful meeting this afternoon as the location has been secured and everything is fine,” he stated.

He voiced apprehension about incidents that occurred early in the morning, where crowds of people allegedly obstructed routes leading to Kikuyu town, interfered with transportation, and what he characterized as mistreatment of drivers.

The former vice president explained that these occurrences briefly caused unease among local inhabitants and travelers before normality returned.

He additionally requested the National Police Service (NPS) and Inspector General (IG) Douglas Kanja to guarantee that officers provide sufficient protection for the planned assembly.

“We are a peaceful community who have organized numerous peaceful events in other locations, and Kikuyu must not be different,” he stated, requesting that officials ensure the protection of residents, commercial establishments, and attendees.

Gachagua also motivated his supporters to attend the event, noting that the conditions in Kikuyu town had normalized and security had enhanced.

Law enforcement officials had taken action earlier in the day to restore calm after portions of the Southern Bypass and adjacent routes in Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County, were obstructed by unidentified individuals.

Transportation was impeded at Thogoto and Gitaru when the individuals ignited fires using tires and positioned trailers across the roadway, halting movement along the congested thoroughfare and impacting drivers traveling to and from Nairobi’s western section.

Observers reported severe traffic jams and brief interruptions on connecting roads, with several drivers compelled to reverse or find different paths.

Security forces were subsequently sent to the region and reopened the blocked sections of the road.

A police officer involved in the operation stated that the circumstances had been managed and traffic flow had resumed.
