Ruiru Sports Club will welcome hundreds of golfers for the 2026 Captain’s Prize, scheduled from April 6 to 12, positioning itself as a premier destination for Kenya’s golf enthusiasts.
The event has transformed into a weeklong golf festival, offering themed competitions, community activities and entertainment, all leading to the main Captain’s Prize competition on Saturday.
The 2026 tournament follows significant upgrades to the club’s fairways and greens, overseen by Club Captain Justus Mathenge.
These enhancements aim to improve playability and elevate the overall experience for golfers.
‘We are thrilled to host golfers from various regions for a week that honors all aspects of the game, including juniors, seniors, caddies, staff, amateurs and professionals,’ stated Mathenge.
‘Thanks to our recent course improvements, the fairways and greens are in prime condition for an unforgettable Captain’s Prize week.’
The event offers a comprehensive schedule spanning the entire week. Festivities commence on Monday with a clergy and friends’ tournament to kick off the week.
Tuesday features a seniors’ competition, while midweek activities include a special tournament for caddies and club staff, acknowledging their important contributions.
Thursday brings the Captain’s Club Night, a social gathering for members and guests. Friday showcases a mixed-format tournament with professionals and amateurs, plus a Gen X and Gen Z competition, followed by entertainment.
Saturday presents the main attractionthe Captain’s Prize tournament, expected to draw the largest number of participants.
The festival concludes on Sunday with a junior golf day, demonstrating the club’s dedication to developing young talent and expanding the sport.
Widespread national participation is anticipated, ensuring a lively atmosphere both on the course and at the clubhouse.
The tournament has secured backing from prominent brands such as Isuzu, NCBA, Pernod Ricard, AM Communications, Stanbic Bank, TotalEnergies, On-site Fiber, Rentco Asset Leasing and Britam, highlighting the increasing significance of Ruiru Sports Club’s Captain’s Prize in the local golf community.
