Kenyan Businesswoman Announces Airline Named After Raila Odinga

A Kenyan businesswoman has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish an airline named in honor of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Sheila Mutundi, a model and entrepreneur based in Singapore, shared exclusive details about ‘Raila Airways,’ confirming that the airline is currently in development and scheduled for an imminent launch.

“We selected the name Raila as a tribute to preserve his legacy,” Mutundi explained, noting that the initiative stems from both her admiration for the former Prime Minister and her personal entrepreneurial aspirations.

According to Mutundi, the airline is slated to commence operations in 2026, focusing on international routes rather than domestic flights within Kenya. However, the airline plans to operate a service between Malaysia and Kenya.

Dispelling suggestions that this might be a publicity stunt, Mutundi emphasized that the airline represents a long-term venture currently in its preparatory stages.

The entrepreneur described Raila as an iconic figure whose legacy merits global recognition. “Raila was a truly exceptional, unparalleled leader, and his name deserves prominent display on billboards and associated with significant achievements,” she stated.

When questioned about the funding for the ambitious Raila Airways project, Mutundi disclosed that it already secured support from both local and international investors involved in the airline’s development. Nevertheless, she mentioned that the venture remains open to additional partnerships as it approaches its launch.

The visual materials for the upcoming airline featured an interior design branded with the political icon’s initials, ‘R A O,’ with the seatback displays showcasing the ‘Raila Airways’ brand name.

Addressing questions regarding political ties, Mutundi clarified that despite its naming, the airline maintains no political affiliation. “Although Raila was a political figure, our airline does not have any political connections,” she said.
