National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has revealed that he provided a statement to authorities following the death of his close associate Cyrus Jirongo.

Wetang’ula expressed sorrow that Jirongo passed away on the same evening he had visited at his Karen residence. “When Cyrus Jirongo, my very close friend, who was always with me whenever he had time,” the Speaker stated.

During an interview with Debarl on #DailyReportTV47, Wetang’ula clarified that he personally reached out to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) shortly after the former Lugari Member of Parliament’s death.

“Upon learning about his passing, I personally contacted the DCI a day or two later. I informed them that I was among the last individuals to meet Cyrus. I saw him at 8:30 and left at 9:30 to return home and prepare,” Wetang’ula explained.

The Speaker confirmed that the DCI publicly acknowledged his cooperation, noting that “The DCI, during his address to the nation, stated that the Speaker of the National Assembly voluntarily provided a statement regarding Jirongo’s case. That is precisely what I did,” Wetang’ula explained.

Wetang’ula announced he has directed his legal representatives to pursue legal action after a local newspaper sensationalized a headline claiming he had been summoned and questioned.

He affirmed that he willingly offered the statement to DCI himself.

“I have instructed my lawyers to handle this matter because the publication portrayed me to the public as if I were a suspect in Jirongo’s case when the DCI had actually informed the country that they had concluded the investigation. Jirongo died in an accident,” he stated.

He concluded by saying, “What I can confirm is that I met with Jirongo at 8:30 on December 12th until 9:30, after which I left for home. The next morning, my son informed me he had seen reports that Jirongo had passed away.”
