by KenyaPolls

Only three years after its debut, Radio 47 has ascended to become Kenya’s second most-listened-to radio station. The latest Ipsos Kenya Audience Tracker (IKAT) report, issued on January 29, 2026, shows that Radio 47 now captures 9% of the nation’s radio listening time. The report places Citizen Radio in the lead position with 17%, while Radio 47 surpasses rivals Radio Jambo (7.2%) and Kameme (5.7%).

Established in March 2023 by Cape Media Ltd (the same company that operates TV47), Radio 47 has evolved from a bold newcomer to a significant disruptor in Kenya’s radio industry. The station’s growth trajectory has been impressive: rising from a 5-5.8% market share in late 2024 to 7.5% in early 2025, and now reaching a peak of 9%, demonstrating both listener loyalty and broad appeal.

The station has now firmly established itself as the country’s second most popular radio broadcaster, closing the gap with the market leader.

The station attracts a diverse and engaged audience, with its listenership almost equally divided between genders (50.1% female, 49.9% male). Radio 47 is especially popular among the 25-34 age group (33.5%), followed by 15-24 year-olds (26.8%) and 35-44 year-olds (17.3%). The broadcaster also has a strong rural presence, with 65% of its audience living outside metropolitan areas, and significant regional support in the Rift Valley (18.4%), Western Kenya (13.5%), Nairobi (9.6%), and other regions.

The Q4 2025 IPSOS Kenya Audience Tracker has officially confirmed Radio 47’s position as the nation’s second most popular radio station, representing a shared achievement for the broadcaster and its audience.

Radio 47’s programming excels particularly during morning and evening commute times, attracting peak-hour listeners and surpassing competitors in crucial time slots. The station’s Swahili-language broadcasts, relevant content, and dynamic presentations appeal to both urban and rural listeners, highlighting the effectiveness of authentic communication in a crowded media landscape. From its inception to reaching the national No. 2 position in record time, Radio 47 has revolutionized the broadcasting sector, demonstrating that innovation, consistency, and audience engagement can successfully challenge established industry leaders.
