Stadium IoT Sensors in Kasarani Flag Dangerous Crowd Density in Real-Time

by KenyaPolls

The Ministry of Sports has deployed a network of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to enhance spectator safety. The discreet sensors, installed at key ingress and seating points, monitor real-time crowd density and movement patterns. The data is fed to a central command center where AI software can predict potential congestion or unsafe pressure build-ups, alerting security personnel to intervene proactively. This initiative, funded by a World Bank grant, comes in the wake of global stadium disasters. This is about preventive safety. We can now manage flow before a crisis occurs, not during, explained Sports PS Peter Tum. The system is set to be installed in Nyayo Stadium and Bukhungu Stadium by mid-2024.
