The Kenyan women’s national volleyball team, the Malkia Strikers, put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell short in their quest to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. At the African Olympic Qualification Tournament in Nigeria, the nine-time African champions won their pool matches but were defeated in the semifinals by a strong Cameroon side. In the bronze medal match, which was the final ticket to Paris, Kenya faced a determined Egyptian team and lost in a thrilling five-setter. Despite the heartbreaking loss, the team’s performance was praised for its resilience and fighting spirit. The veteran players, led by captain Jane Wacu, gave their all, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their opponents. The result marked the end of an era for several key players in the team.
