Microsoft Opens Nairobi AI Lab to Support Local Startups

by KenyaPolls

Microsoft has launched an AI Innovation Lab in Nairobi, its first in East Africa, to support startups building solutions in healthcare, agriculture, and education. Announced in January 2024, the lab offers cloud credits, mentorship, and access to Azure AI tools. Partners include Moringa School, Africa’s Talking, and the Ministry of ICT. Initial cohorts include startups using AI to detect cassava disease and predict maternal health risks. Microsoft pledged $10 million over three years. The lab reinforces Nairobi’s status as a regional tech hub and aligns with Kenya’s National AI Strategy.
