Kenya’s Youth Apprenticeship Program Trains 100,000 in TVET Colleges

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s National Youth Service (NYS) and TVET Authority have trained 100,000 youth in practical skills through the Apprenticeship Programme in 2023. Participants spent 6 months in colleges and 6 months in industries like construction, manufacturing, and hospitality. Over 75% secured jobs or started businesses, with partners including Bamburi, Kenya Airways, and Davis & Shirtliff. The 2024/25 budget allocates Ksh15 billion to scale the program to 250,000 youth. The initiative addresses skills mismatch, a key barrier to employment. Employers report high satisfaction with graduates’ readiness, calling it a model for learning by doing.
