Kenya’s First Carbon Credit Project Certified Under New National Standard

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s first carbon credit project under the national Voluntary Carbon Market Framework has been certified in the Aberdare Forest. The 10,000-hectare reforestation initiative, led by Wildlife Works and local communities, will generate 500,000 carbon credits over 10 years. Each credit, valued at $12–$15, will be sold to global corporates seeking net-zero alignment. Revenue will fund conservation and community development. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) verified the project using Kenya’s new methodology, ensuring additionality and permanence. Over 20 more projects are in pipeline, potentially earning Kenya $200 million annually from carbon markets by 2030.
