Kenya’s competitive gaming scene has received a major boost with the launch of the Nairobi Nexus Collegiate eSports League. Organized by gaming hub Nairobi Gamers’ Lounge and sponsored by several tech firms, the league will see university and college teams compete in popular titles like FIFA, eFootball, and Rocket League. The unique prize for the championship team is a full university scholarship for each team member, covering tuition for one academic year. We are legitimizing eSports as a viable career and academic path. This is about harnessing digital passion for tangible future prospects, said league commissioner Wanjiku Mwangi. Over 30 institutions have already registered for the inaugural season.
