Kenya’s Export of Processed Horticulture Products Grows by 50% in 2023

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s export of value-added horticulture—dried fruits, essential oils, frozen berries, and ready-to-eat salads—grew by 50% in 2023, earning Ksh28 billion. The Fresh Produce Exporters Association (FPEA) credits investments in processing plants in Naivasha, Thika, and Eldoret, supported by the Export Processing Zones Authority. EU and Middle East demand for convenience foods and natural cosmetics drives growth. Over 200,000 smallholders benefit through out-grower schemes. The government’s Ksh5 billion Value Addition Fund offers grants for packaging and certification. With AfCFTA, Kenya aims to double processed horticulture exports by 2026, moving up the global value chain.
