Kenya Airways has joined the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) Carbon Offset Program, allowing passengers to voluntarily offset flight emissions through verified forestry and renewable energy projects in Kenya and Uganda. Launched in March 2024, the program is integrated into KQ’s booking platform, with offset costs starting at Ksh200 for Nairobi–Mombasa. CEO Allan Kilavuka said the move supports Kenya’s climate commitments and meets rising demand from eco-conscious travelers. Offsets fund the Aberdare reforestation and Menengai geothermal projects. KQ aims to achieve net-zero domestic flights by 2035 and is exploring sustainable aviation fuel trials with NEMA and Safaricom.
