Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched TaxPal, an AI-powered chatbot that helps SMEs file returns, calculate liabilities, and claim deductions via WhatsApp and SMS. Piloted in March 2024, TaxPal uses Swahili and English to guide users through iTax in real time. Over 80,000 businesses used it in the first month, reducing errors and call center load by 35%. The system integrates with eTIMS and bank statements for auto-filling. KRA says it has improved voluntary compliance and reduced audit disputes. The tool will expand to include customs and payroll tax guidance by Q3 2024.
