Kenya’s Urban Water Reuse Strategy to Recycle 30% of Wastewater by 2030

by KenyaPolls

Kenya has adopted an Urban Water Reuse Strategy targeting 30% recycling of treated wastewater for industrial cooling, landscaping, and construction by 2030. Nairobi City Water is piloting the program at the Dandora plant, producing 50,000m³/day of recycled water for industries in Embakasi. Similar projects are planned for Mombasa and Kisumu. The Ksh10 billion initiative, backed by AfDB, reduces pressure on freshwater sources and lowers water bills for factories. Regulations on water quality standards have been gazetted. The strategy supports climate resilience in cities facing recurrent droughts and population growth.
