Kenya has launched a National Electric Cooking Strategy to promote clean stoves and reduce reliance on charcoal, a major driver of deforestation. The plan, unveiled in April 2024, targets 50% electric cooking adoption by 2030 through subsidized induction stoves, off-grid solar kits, and tariff incentives. Pilots in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Kitui show 60% reduction in indoor air pollution. Kenya Power will offer time-of-use tariffs to make e-cooking affordable. The strategy supports climate goals and could save 100,000 hectares of forest annually. Partners include UNDP, GIZ, and local manufacturers like Davis & Shirtliff.
