Kenya’s fresh produce exports now use a national blockchain traceability system that tracks fruits and vegetables from farm to supermarket shelf. Launched in April 2024 by the Horticultural Crops Directorate and Twiga Foods, the platform records pesticide use, harvest date, and temperature during transit. EU and UK retailers scan QR codes to verify sustainability claims. Over 500 farms and 20 exporters are on the system, reducing rejection rates at ports by 45%. The technology boosts Kenya’s clean and green horticulture brand and supports premium pricing in global markets.
