Kenya has launched MamaBot, an AI-powered chatbot offering free maternal health advice in Swahili, English, and local languages. Developed by AMPATH and Google, the tool uses WhatsApp to answer questions on nutrition, danger signs, and clinic locations. Piloted in Bungoma and Kisumu, it reached 50,000 pregnant women in Q1 2024, reducing missed antenatal visits by 22%. The Ministry of Health will scale it nationally in 2024. MamaBot integrates with the Digital Maternity Wallet and NHIF systems. The innovation won the Africa Tech Health Award and is seen as a scalable model for low-resource settings.
