Kenya’s Affordable Housing Program Completes 50,000 Units

by KenyaPolls

The National Affordable Housing Programme has completed 50,000 housing units across 15 counties as of May 2024, surpassing its 2023 target. Projects in Nairobi (Ruiru), Mombasa (Migadini), and Kisumu (Manyatta) account for 60% of deliveries. The units, priced between Ksh800,000 and Ksh3 million, target low- and middle-income earners. Over 70% have been taken up, with mortgage financing from HF Group and housing cooperatives. The Ministry of Lands credits public-private partnerships and expedited approvals for the progress. An additional 100,000 units are under construction, supported by the Ksh30 billion Housing Fund. Slum upgrading remains a parallel priority.
