Kenya’s First Green Industrial Park Opens in Athi River

by KenyaPolls

Kenya’s inaugural Green Industrial Park has opened in Athi River, offering carbon-neutral manufacturing space powered by solar and geothermal energy. Developed by the Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) with support from GIZ, the 200-acre park hosts eco-friendly factories in textiles, plastics recycling, and agro-processing. Tenants enjoy 10-year tax holidays, water recycling systems, and EV shuttle services. Phase 1 is 80% occupied by firms like EcoPost (recycled plastic lumber) and SunCulture (solar irrigation). The park aims to reduce industrial emissions by 50% and create 5,000 green jobs by 2027. It aligns with Kenya’s Climate Change Act and net-zero 2050 goal.
