Kenya’s First AI Ethics Guidelines for Public Sector Adopted

by KenyaPolls

Kenya has adopted national AI Ethics Guidelines for the public sector, requiring transparency, fairness, and human oversight in all government AI systems. Launched in May 2024 by the Ministry of ICT, the framework applies to health diagnostics, agricultural advisories, and social welfare targeting. All algorithms must undergo bias audits and public consultation. Kenya joins South Africa and Nigeria as African leaders in responsible AI governance. The guidelines support the National AI Strategy and build public trust in digital transformation. A multi-stakeholder AI Ethics Board will monitor compliance and handle citizen complaints.
