Kenya Railways has resumed passenger service to Naivasha with new air-conditioned coaches and digital ticketing. The upgraded Madaraka Express now offers twice-daily trips from Nairobi, cutting travel time to 1 hour 45 minutes. In its first month (May 2024), ridership hit 10,000 passengers. Amenities include Wi-Fi, luggage scanners, and wheelchair access. Kenya Railways aims to extend service to Nakuru by 2025 and integrate with BRT for last-mile connectivity. Fares remain subsidized at Ksh700 (economy) and Ksh2,000 (first class). The relaunch supports tourism, logistics, and commuter convenience, with 1.5 million passengers projected annually by 2026.
