Former students of Trans Nzoia Primary School, a 102-year-old institution in Kitale, have mobilised to restore its dilapidated infrastructure, including cracked walls and outdated classrooms. The alumni association, comprising professionals and business leaders, aims to raise over KSh 20 million for a phased renovation while preserving the school’s historical character. This school educated many of our leaders. We cannot watch it crumble. This is a labour of love, not politics, said association chairperson Dr. Mary Wanyonyi. The initiative has drawn broad community support, though some online critics wrongly conflated it with county development funds being used in Malava constituency. The alumni plan to partner with the county education department for technical oversight but will rely on private donations and in-kind contributions for funding.
