Kenya’s First National Sports Heritage Digital Twin Launched

The Kenya Sports Heritage Digital Twin—a 3D virtual replica of key sites (Kip Keino’s Kaptagat track, Seraphino Antao’s Mombasa home, Nyayo Stadium’s original blocks)—launched on December 10, 2025. Built by UoN’s VR Lab and iHub, it allows users to walk through history, hear oral testimonies, and even simulate historic races. Memory isn’t static—it’s immersive, said lead developer James Mwangi. Schools receive free VR headsets; 500 are deployed in ASAL counties. Google Arts & Culture featured it globally. UNESCO awarded Kenya a grant to add 20 more sites by 2026.
