Lamu’s Dhow Climate Navigator App (News #333) won the 2025 *UN Ocean Innovation Prize* on December 15, 2025—recognized for bridging ancestral knowledge and AI to protect small-scale fishers. The prize includes USD 100,000 and UN support to scale the app to 10 Indian Ocean nations. The sea speaks in waves and wisdom—we built an ear to listen, said developer Salim Ali. UNESCO will document the *Ng’irita* (bird behavior) algorithm for its Indigenous AI repository. A Swahili-language version launches in January 2026.
