*Bahari Mpya II*, Lamu’s solar-assisted racing dhow (News #345), won the 2025 East Africa Innovation Prize on December 25, 2025—recognized for reimagining maritime heritage through sustainable tech. The prize includes USD 50,000 and incubation at the Lamu Innovation Hub. Tradition isn’t fragile—it’s flexible, said skipper Salim Ali Jr. The vessel will compete in the 2026 Lamu Regatta and the Zanzibar Dhow Cup. UNESCO will feature it in *Sailing for Sustainability*.
