Marsabit Launches Camel Milk Marathon to Combat Malnutrition

by KenyaPolls

Marsabit County hosted the Camel Milk Marathon on January 19, 2025—a 10km fun run where finishers received fortified camel milk sachets developed with JKUAT nutritionists. The event, part of the *Nutri-Run Initiative*, aimed to combat child stunting (34% in the county). Over 5,200 participants joined, raising KSh 12 million for school milk programs. Elite runner Halima Duba won in 34:18, dedicating her win to pastoralist mothers. This race fuels bodies and hope, she said. The camel milk, enriched with moringa and sorghum, is now distributed in 40 schools. UNICEF scaled the model to Turkana and Wajir. Plans for a half-marathon in 2026 include lactating mothers’ races.
