Kiambu County is witnessing rapid transformation under Governor Kimani Wamatangi, with significant investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and revenue collection. In sports, the county has completed a FIBA-standard basketball court at Thika Stadium, providing a professional-grade facility for local and regional teams. The court is designed to nurture talent, promote discipline, and enhance youth empowerment while supporting Thika’s elevation to an Industrial Smart City.
Revenue collection has also seen remarkable growth, with the County setting an ambitious KSh 8 billion Own Source Revenue (OSR) target for 2025/26, building on KSh 5.45 billion collected in the previous financial year through automation and the Enterprise Resource Planning system. Funds from OSR have been channeled into impactful projects including the construction and furnishing of 309 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers, establishment of new hospitals, and upgrading health facilities with state-of-the-art medical equipment such as dialysis machines, digital x-rays, and endoscopy units. The administration has further prioritized solar-powered street lighting under the #AngazaKiambu program, reducing energy costs and improving security across all wards.
Social services have also been strengthened, with the county bursary kitty increased from KSh 100 million to KSh 500 million, benefiting thousands of vulnerable students, including persons with disabilities. Additionally, informal settlements are being transformed under KISIP 2, in partnership with the World Bank and AFD, with projects including paved roads, drainage, solar street lighting, and land tenure regularization. The County continues to work on markets, including Gakoe, Mataara, Kamangu, and Karuri, to support local trade and entrepreneurship, while ensuring employment and economic opportunities for residents.
Governor Wamatangi’s administration underscores a vision of inclusive growth, fiscal discipline, and sustainable development, aiming to improve the quality of life for all residents.
