Makueni County piloted Kenya’s first Integrated Green Gym Program in 12 sub-county hospitals on February 20, 2025—installing outdoor fitness stations powered by user motion to generate electricity for clinic lighting. Designed by JKUAT engineers, the equipment (ellipticals, arm bikes, stepper) stores kinetic energy in batteries, cutting diesel costs by 35%. Over 4,200 patients and staff used the gyms weekly, with chronic disease management improving by 22% (per MOH audit). Exercise becomes treatment—and treatment powers healing, said Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. The World Health Organization featured it in its *Active Health Systems* report. Plans to scale to 200 facilities nationwide by 2027 are underway, with support from USAID.
