Nakuru County Wins National Special Needs Sports Festival

by KenyaPolls

Nakuru County topped the medal table at the 5th National Special Needs Sports Festival in Machakos on March 30, 2025—winning 38 golds across athletics, boccia, and unified football. Their success stemmed from the *Inclusive Talent Pipeline*, embedding para-coaches in all 42 primary schools. Standout: 14-year-old autistic sprinter Ian Mwangi, who broke the national 100m record (12.8s). He doesn’t run to win—he runs to communicate, said his coach, Jane Kamau. The county built Kenya’s first sensory-friendly athletics track. Safaricom renewed its KSh 50 million sponsorship, and the Ministry of Education mandated inclusive PE training for all teachers by 2026.
