Lamu Launches Dhow Navigation & Math Mobile App for Schools

Lamu County and Strathmore University launched the Dhow Navigator App on April 1, 2025—teaching trigonometry, wind vectors, and tide calculations through interactive dhow-sailing simulations. Math isn’t on paper—it’s in the sail’s curve, said developer Salim Rajab. Used in 25 schools; math scores rose 31%. Aga Khan Trust funded offline versions. UNESCO endorsed it for STEM innovation. National rollout planned for 2026.
