Uhuru Kenyatta Calls Special Jubilee Party Meeting Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has convened a special delegates meeting for the Jubilee Party on September 26, 2025, at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, aiming to steer the party through critical strategic discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections. The announcement follows Uhuru’s resumption of active leadership within the party after a prolonged legal dispute with a splinter faction. In a statement to party delegates, Uhuru emphasized the importance of reviewing the party’s constitution, newly formed organs, and policies, underlining the need to strengthen Jubilee’s position nationally as it prepares to field its candidates for the upcoming elections.
The meeting comes after a series of internal challenges that had threatened to destabilize Jubilee. In 2023, a faction led by nominated MP Sabina Chege and EALA legislator Kanini Kega declared themselves the party’s new leadership, rejecting the legitimacy of a National Delegates Convention (NDC) presided over by Uhuru. The resulting dispute escalated to the courts, where the High Court ultimately reinstated Uhuru as party leader in June 2025, confirming the legitimacy of the 2023 NDC. Under the revived leadership team, with Saitoti Torome as chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as secretary-general, Jubilee has sought to resume normal operations, including reviewing its constitution and organizational structures.
Political analysts view the September 26 meeting as a crucial step for Jubilee to consolidate its internal unity and enhance its visibility ahead of the 2027 elections. With former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate, the party is keen on demonstrating cohesive leadership and resolving lingering factional disputes. The delegates meeting will also provide a platform to evaluate ongoing initiatives, strengthen policy frameworks, and engage party officials on strategies to expand Jubilee’s influence across the country. As Uhuru leads this renewed drive, party insiders stress that maintaining discipline and presenting a united front will be essential to Jubilee’s efforts to reclaim political momentum and appeal to voters nationwide.
