Lamu Launches Dhow Navigation & Climate Science App for Fishers

Lamu County and UoN launched the Dhow Climate Navigator App on April 15, 2025—teaching fishers to read changing winds, currents, and plankton blooms using traditional knowledge and satellite data. The sea whispers change—we just learn its language, said skipper Salim Ali. Used by 420 fishers; catch sustainability improved 57%. UNESCO endorsed it for climate adaptation. National rollout planned for 2026.
