The University of Nairobi launched East Africa’s first Sports Law & Ethics Clinic on April 18, 2025—offering free legal aid to athletes on contracts, doping appeals, gender discrimination, and image rights. Staffed by law students and pro bono attorneys, the clinic has handled 83 cases in 6 months, including 12 contract disputes and 3 gender equity interventions. Justice shouldn’t be a luxury for champions, said Director Prof. Margaret Wambui. It partnered with FIFA’s Legal Aid Program and NOCK. A landmark win: securing maternity pay for a national volleyball player denied benefits. The clinic now advises 7 federations on governance reform.
