Kenya expands national agenda on robotics training

Kenya has expanded its national agenda on robotics training, embedding it into the Kenya National AI Strategy 2025–2030. The government announced that robotics will be a central pillar of the country’s digital transformation, aimed at strengthening STEM education, fostering innovation, and preparing industries for automation. Officials emphasized that robotics training will modernize agriculture, healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing, while creating new opportunities for startups and SMEs.
The expansion builds on the Digital Economy Blueprint 2025, which prioritizes innovation and technology adoption as drivers of sustainable growth. Universities such as Mount Kenya University (MKU) have already introduced humanoid robots and advanced labs to provide hands-on robotics training, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) continues to host robotics competitions that encourage collaboration and innovation among students. Outreach programs like Huawei’s DigiTruck and the ITU–Google–will.i.am robotics education initiative (September 2025) are also extending robotics training to rural communities, ensuring inclusivity in Kenya’s digital agenda.
Industry experts highlight that Kenya’s robotics market revenue is projected to reach US$23.12 million in 2025, with service robotics dominating at US$22.52 million. The market is expected to grow at a 9.98% annual rate (CAGR 2025–2030), reaching US$37.20 million by 2030. This growth reflects rising demand for robotics solutions in key sectors and underscores the economic potential of embedding robotics training into the national agenda. Analysts argue that Kenya’s focus on robotics will accelerate entrepreneurship and attract foreign investment.
Looking ahead, policymakers believe that expanding robotics training will position Kenya as East Africa’s innovation hub. By embedding robotics into education and industry, the country is laying the foundation for a resilient, future-ready workforce. The expansion signals Kenya’s determination to lead Africa in robotics education and industrial application, ensuring competitiveness in the global digital economy.
