Migori County Assembly Approves Sh12.15 Billion Supplementary Budget
Migori County Assembly has approved a Sh12.15 billion supplementary budget, with the largest allocation going to the health sector and pending bills clearance.
The health department received Sh2.8 billion, reflecting the county’s commitment to improving healthcare services for its residents. County Assembly Speaker Christopher Rusana said the budget aims to meet both recurrent and development expenditure for the 2024/2025 financial year.
Residents welcomed the move, expressing optimism that the funds would address long-standing challenges such as drug shortages, inadequate water supply, and poor service delivery in hospitals.
The supplementary budget also allocated Sh1 billion to the Finance and Economic Planning department, Sh1.09 billion to the Environment and Roads and Transport departments, and Sh931.8 million to Public Service. Other sectors, including Trade, County Executive, Education, Agriculture, and Water and Energy, received significant funding, while Lands and Physical Planning and the office of the County Attorney received the smallest allocations.
Graham Kagali, chairman of the budget and appropriation committee, noted that the budget addresses critical challenges, including pending bills. Governor Ochilo Ayacko’s administration had already cleared Sh1.7 billion in pending bills, with Sh300 million remaining.
