Kenya’s AI robotics team, Nairobi Nexus, won the 2025 Africa RoboCup in Cairo on May 22, 2025—programming humanoid robots to play 5-a-side football autonomously. Composed of students from JKUAT, Strathmore, and Kianda School, the team beat Egypt 3–1 in the final using swarm intelligence tactics. Their robots used computer vision and real-time strategy adaptation. We code the dream—they execute it, said captain Faith Njoroge (19). The win secures Kenya’s spot at the 2026 World RoboCup in Bangkok. The Ministry of ICT pledged KSh 100 million for school robotics labs. Google Kenya will host the 2026 African qualifiers in Nairobi.
