The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has recognized Kenya’s significant achievements in implementing corrective measures after the 2024/2025 audit that placed the nation on a compliance watchlist.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya welcomed a high-level WADA delegation led by Africa Director Rodney Swigelaar at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi. The delegation acknowledged the government’s dedication to strengthening Kenya’s national anti-doping framework.

Swigelaar commended the government’s ongoing support for the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), highlighting its crucial role in maintaining the country’s complete adherence to the World Anti-Doping Code.

Cabinet Secretary Mvurya emphasized Kenya’s commitment to fully align with WADA recommendations, stating that current reforms aim to establish a robust, sustainable, transparent, and integrity-focused anti-doping system that aligns with global best practices.

“I have welcomed WADA’s recognition of Kenya’s progress in implementing the agreed corrective action plans and reviewing legislation to ensure full alignment with the World Anti-Doping Code,” Mvurya stated.
He further emphasized ADAK’s dedication to maintaining the reform momentum, focusing on enhancing institutional credibility, compliance, and accountability.

The Cabinet Secretary also disclosed that the government is extending the Anti-Doping Programme to Other Sports Disciplines (OSD) beyond athletics to promote equity, integrity, and comprehensive protection of clean sport across all sporting codes.

He mentioned that additional Exchequer resources have been allocated to strengthen governance, intelligence gathering, investigations, and risk-based testing capabilities.

Kenya has also introduced specific reforms, including adopting flexible policies to accommodate updated compliance requirements, expanding education and awareness programs to foster a culture of compliance, securing dedicated funding, and optimizing governance and staffing structures.

“For WADA, Kenya’s success in its anti-doping program should parallel its achievements on the international sporting stage. We are greatly encouraged by the commitment demonstrated by the Government of Kenya and other stakeholders to ensure the program fully complies with the Anti-Doping Code,” Swigelaar concluded.
