Nairobi Hospital’s sports medicine unit has introduced VR rehabilitation for athletes recovering from ACL and other major knee surgeries. Using immersive VR environments, patients can engage in guided motor-skill exercises and simulated sport-specific movements without physical load, improving neurological connection and reducing mental fatigue during recovery. It tricks the brain into staying engaged with the sport while the body heals, which is crucial for morale, explained the unit’s head physiotherapist.
