Uasin Gishu to Launch New Gender Policy
Uasin Gishu County has completed the formulation of a gender policy aimed at mainstreaming equity, addressing gender-based issues, and promoting awareness across all county departments and operations.
Key Highlights:
Operational Timeline: Governor Jonathan Bii aims to have the policy fully operational by the end of 2024.
Policy Goals: Establish critical structures to fight gender-based violence, promote gender equality, and enhance social harmony.
Stakeholder Involvement: Draft developed through insights from Key Informant Interviews and public participation across 30 wards.
Technical Bench: Includes the Department of Gender and Community Development, Rural Women Peace Link, State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, and other partners such as NORTA, Kerio Rights Organisation, Reprodrive, and NCCK.
Consultancy & Leadership: Lead consultant Chryspin Afifu coordinated input alongside county officials including Chief Officer Eunice Suter and Directors for Gender and Community Development.
Public Sensitisation: County Assembly Gender Committee Chair, Patrick Kimaiyo, emphasized robust awareness campaigns to ensure community understanding and support.
