Uasin Gishu Launches Mass Vaccination Campaign for Children
Uasin Gishu County is set to vaccinate over 667,000 children as part of a nationwide campaign against measles-rubella (MR) and typhoid, running from July 4 to 13, 2025.
Key Details:
Targeted groups:
MR vaccine: 7.5 million children aged 9 months to 5 years nationwide; Uasin Gishu targets 137,127 children.
Typhoid conjugate vaccine: 19.2 million children aged 9 months to 14 years nationwide; Uasin Gishu targets 430,017 children.
Preparation: Subcounty health teams have been trained and equipped to ensure effective coverage across all six subcounties.
Coverage goals: At least 95% for MR and 80% for typhoid nationwide.
Importance: The campaign addresses the risk of outbreaks, especially with stagnating vaccine coverage (MR1 at 80%, MR2 at 60%) and rising antimicrobial resistance.
Community engagement: Health officials urge parents and caregivers to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated.
The campaign reflects the county’s commitment to child health, outbreak prevention, and increased immunity in the population.
