Uasin Gishu Launches Vibrant 2025 Cultural Festival Ahead of National Showcase

Uasin Gishu County has kicked off its 2025 Cultural Festival in Eldoret, bringing together more than 70 groups drawn from youth organisations, church choirs, cultural troupes and technical arts teams. The colourful event marks the beginning of the county’s preparations for the Kenya National Music and Cultural Festival, which will also be hosted in Uasin Gishu from November 28 to December 8, 2025. Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea, who presided over the opening ceremony, urged residents to unite and present a strong cultural identity as the county prepares to welcome national leaders, including the President. He praised local teams for their dedication and encouraged them to showcase discipline, creativity, and excellence.

Kapkea also reminded participants of the importance of preserving cultural heritage, noting that Uasin Gishu’s diverse communities—among them the Borana and Nandi—play an essential role in safeguarding Kenya’s traditions and values. He emphasized virtues such as hard work, honesty and integrity, describing culture as the backbone of unity and national identity. The Deputy Governor further affirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting youth and women, highlighting upcoming initiatives like the Governor’s Cup and other empowerment programmes. According to county officials, funds have been allocated to ensure these activities continue to uplift talent, promote cohesion and strengthen community bonds.

County Director for Culture Mohamed Dakane revealed that this year’s festival has attracted 78 groups from all county wards and is expected to select about 30 teams to represent Uasin Gishu at the national level—an increase from 13 last year. Dakane noted that the festival not only nurtures talent but also enhances peace and friendship among communities. He announced that international guests from Poland will be attending the event, exploring possible partnerships that could see local performers tour Europe in 2026. With Uasin Gishu having finished second nationally last year with 81 trophies, officials are optimistic about clinching the top spot this time. The event drew county leaders, MCAs, Eldoret National Polytechnic representatives and adjudicators from across Kenya, all pledging their support as the festival continues to celebrate creativity under this year’s theme: Threads of Culture, Weaves of Opportunity.
