Tribute submissions open for late Justice Ibrahim

The judiciary called on judges, judicial officers, lawyers, and the public to submit tributes honoring Justice Mohamed Ibrahim before special proceedings on March 9, 2026.

Chief Justice Martha Koome will lead the memorial session.

Ibrahim served on the Supreme Court’s inaugural bench from August 2011 until his passing in December 2025.

The judiciary stated this tribute offers an opportunity for justice sector colleagues and citizens to honor Ibrahim’s legacy and contributions to Kenyan jurisprudence.

The court established an online platform for early submissions ahead of the memorial event.

Appointed to Kenya’s Supreme Court in June 2011, Ibrahim became one of the institution’s founding justices after the 2010 Constitution.

He played a central role in developing the court’s jurisprudence and institutional culture during Kenya’s formative constitutional period.

Within the court, Ibrahim held significant administrative responsibilities.

He chaired the Judiciary Committee on Elections, positioning him at the core of judicial oversight during electoral processes.

His duties included liaising with judicial associations representing magistrates, judges, and women jurists.
