by KenyaPolls

Trans Nzoia County has launched the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP 2) in five informal settlements within Kitale Municipality: Mitume, Matisi, Tuwan, Kipsongo, and Shanti. The KSh 2.1 billion project, funded by the World Bank, AFD, and the national government, will construct roads, drainage, water connections, and public lighting for over 2,500 households. County Executive for Lands Janerose Nasimiyu stated that earthworks and pipeline laying have begun, with 4.8% of works completed. This project will transform these marginalised areas by providing basic services and securing land tenure, Nasimiyu said. Project Engineer Martin Maina from Sihaam Contractors acknowledged weather challenges but expressed confidence in meeting the 24-month deadline. The initiative includes a social component to regularise land ownership for residents.
