Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Urges Political Tolerance Ahead of 2027 Elections
Trans Nzoia County Commissioner, Gideon Oyagi, has called for heightened political tolerance among leaders and citizens as Kenya approaches the 2027 general elections. Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Lessos Primary School in Kwanza Sub County, Oyagi warned that divisive politics could undermine decades of social cohesion and national progress since independence. He urged political actors to focus on unity, emphasizing that disagreements should be ideological rather than personal or tribal.
The commissioner also addressed growing concerns over land disputes and cases of land grabbing within the county. He assured residents that the government is committed to protecting both public and private property and enforcing the law to safeguard citizens’ rights. In addition, Oyagi highlighted the national government’s affordable housing initiative, which is set to roll out in Kitale with the construction of 1,035 units. He noted that the project would not only provide affordable homes but also create employment opportunities for both skilled and unskilled youths, with priority given to Trans Nzoia residents.
Oyagi further urged local leaders to join the fight against drug and substance abuse, which he said continues to threaten community security. Insecurity tends to rise if drug abuse is left unchecked. We appeal to our leaders to actively advocate against this vice and safeguard our youth, he stated. His remarks emphasized the critical role of leadership in shaping safe and stable communities ahead of the upcoming elections.
Looking forward, Oyagi encouraged all stakeholders in Trans Nzoia to work collaboratively to maintain peace, protect public resources, and support developmental projects. He stressed that sustainable growth and security rely on a collective commitment to lawful governance, civic responsibility, and the prioritization of the public interest over political rivalry. Residents and leaders alike were urged to embrace tolerance and unity as Kenya approaches one of its most significant electoral periods.
