Kiambu County has rolled out the Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative designed to recognize, empower, and connect young entrepreneurs across the county. A spin-off of the 254 Youth Entrepreneurship Awards, the event seeks to celebrate the achievements of youth-led small and medium enterprises (SMEs) while creating a platform for collaboration between emerging and established businesses. The week-long event brings together stakeholders from both the public and private sectors — including business leaders, corporate firms, and government representatives — to support youth innovation, creativity, and enterprise growth within the county.
Under the theme Technology, Value Addition and Manufacturing during COVID, the event aims to highlight how young entrepreneurs are adapting to challenges brought by the pandemic while driving economic recovery through innovation and enterprise. Activities during the week include exhibitions that allow young business owners to showcase and market their products and services across various sectors. Entrepreneurs who have nominated themselves for the awards are also given the opportunity to display their work, gain visibility, and build meaningful partnerships with investors and established corporations operating within Kiambu. The exhibitions serve as a bridge linking youth enterprises with larger companies seeking to mentor, invest in, or collaborate with emerging talent.
The nomination period runs from October 25th to November 20th, 2021, with the main event scheduled for December 7th to 10th. The County Government has encouraged young innovators to take advantage of the opportunity, describing the initiative as part of its ongoing commitment to job creation and youth empowerment. By fostering entrepreneurship and technological creativity, the Kiambu County Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week seeks to build a vibrant ecosystem where young people can thrive as key contributors to local economic growth. The event not only celebrates success stories but also sets the stage for long-term partnerships that will shape the future of business and innovation in Kiambu.
