TECNO Completes Football Pitch Renovations in Nairobi

by KenyaPolls

TECNO celebrated a significant achievement in its Dream Field Renovation Initiative on Wednesday by officially delivering three newly improved community football pitches in Nairobi, while construction continues on a fourth. The ceremony at Kinyago Football Grounds marked the completion of upgrades at Kinyago Football Field, Huruma Sports Ground, and Mathare Area 4 (Heide Marie Primary School). Current projects at Mlango Kubwa, Mathare have pushed TECNO’s total Nairobi investment beyond KSh 20 million to date. This project aligns with TECNO’s continental pledge to renovate 100 community football pitches across Africa by 2028, established through their partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The initiative seeks to enhance grassroots sports facilities, develop emerging talent, and establish safe, welcoming environments for community advancement through football. Victor Alufwani highlighted TECNO’s commitment to youth development during the ceremony: ‘Football is fundamental to African culture. It transcends sport as a vehicle for opportunity, unity, and personal development. Through the Dream Field Renovation Initiative, we are directly investing in communities by converting ordinary spaces into secure, professional-standard football facilities where youth can practice, compete, and aspire. Kenya represents a vital segment of this journey, and we are honored to have finished three pitches while a fourth remains in progress.’ The renovations featured premium artificial turf and natural grass surfaces, improved goal posts, spectator areas, pitch markings, and safety improvements. Prior to the upgrades, most of these fields suffered from dusty, uneven conditions and lacked essential facilities, restricting their safety and functionality. Oscar Igaida, Nairobi City County’s Chief Officer for Youth, Talent & Sports, commended the project: ‘This represents more than infrastructure development. It involves creating settings that foster discipline, collaboration, and constructive youth involvement. Superior sports facilities significantly influence the development of self-assured, concentrated, and driven young individuals. We recognize TECNO’s investment in grassroots football and their collaboration with communities to generate lasting impact.’ Area coaches and community representatives shared similar observations about the immediate effects on involvement and enthusiasm. Antony Ombona, a local coach, stated: ‘Pre-renovation, training sessions were challenging and hazardous. The dusty terrain frequently resulted in injuries and deterred regular practice. Now, the field has revolutionized how our athletes train, compete, and develop self-assurance. This venue provides our youth with genuine opportunities to develop not just as footballers, but as disciplined and self-assured persons.’ The Dream Field Renovation Initiative is expanding throughout Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa, affirming TECNO’s dedication to youth advancement and community empowerment. This supports TECNO’s wider football strategy, encompassing their position as Official Global Partner of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 and 2027. Through this program, TECNO reaffirms its conviction that sustainable sports infrastructure is crucial for discovering Africa’s next football talents, while also reinforcing community bonds and motivating youth to pursue their aspirations.’
