Tech leaders discuss Kenya’s role in digital transformation

Kenya’s growing prominence in digital transformation was the focus of a recent forum where technology leaders, government officials, and innovators convened to explore the country’s potential as a regional hub for technology. Participants highlighted ongoing initiatives in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, finance, and public service delivery that leverage digital tools, including artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, to address local challenges. Discussions centered on strategies to strengthen digital skills, foster innovation, and ensure ethical, inclusive adoption of technology across the country.
Speakers emphasized the role of key national programs in driving this transformation. The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, launched on 27 March 2025, sets out a framework for AI adoption and ethical governance, while the Kenya AI Skilling Alliance (KAISA), launched on 29 October 2025, provides training, mentorship, and support for startups and innovators nationwide. Examples highlighted at the forum included AI-assisted healthcare diagnostics, predictive crop monitoring, and automated financial tools—demonstrating the tangible impact of digital transformation on improving services and driving innovation in both urban and rural communities.
Experts noted that Kenya’s leadership in digital transformation requires ongoing collaboration among government, industry, academia, and civil society. They stressed the importance of data privacy, regulatory frameworks, and inclusive access to technology to ensure broad-based benefits. Looking ahead, tech leaders agreed that Kenya’s proactive approach to digital transformation positions the country as a continental leader, capable of driving innovation, stimulating economic growth, and nurturing a digitally skilled workforce ready to meet future challenges.
