Super Metro Limited has started an internal investigation following the detention of its driver and conductor regarding a fatal occurrence on February 2 in Kitengela.

This occurred after a bus traveling from Kitengela to Nairobi CBD with 32 passengers was reportedly halted by a group of furious boda boda riders who claimed that the conductor had pushed a passenger from the vehicle, resulting in immediate death.

According to reports, the deceased, identified as Joseph Mureithi, was thrown from the moving bus before it ran over him and continued on, crushing his head.

Police apprehended the angry mob and successfully arrested the driver and conductor, transporting them to Athi River police station.

In its response, Super Metro condemned the incident and assured the public that it is collaborating closely with law enforcement agencies to facilitate investigations and resolve the matter.

“We are fully cooperating with the law enforcement and National Transport and Safety Authority as they conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident. Currently, the matter remains under investigation,” they stated.

The company also encouraged anyone with relevant information regarding the matter to come forward and contact the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

The bus is currently held at Athi River police station, and both the driver and conductor remain in police custody as authorities continue their investigation.

This incident came a year after a similar occurrence in Kahawa Wendani involving Gilbert Thuo Kimani, a middle-aged man from Murang’a County.

The dispute arose over a fare of Ksh 30 versus Ksh 80, while Gilbert insisted he only had Ksh 50.

As the bus traveled toward Kahawa Wendani, the conductor ejected Gilbert, causing him to die instantly from multiple fractures, including broken ribs and limbs.
